Distributing face shields and masks to children in poor communities in Nigeria

The world as we view it today is not as we foresaw. Globally, all hands are on deck to combat a common enemy- The Corona Virus, a pandemic responsible for huge losses to both people and businesses. Indeed, out of every ongoing global issue, COVID-19 is at the front burner for global priority. The Pandemic has affected everyone at different levels; while some get it tough, others don't survive it at all. However, in all these, the question that comes to mind for us remains – what is the fate of vulnerable children?

In every society, the worst affected in times like this are women and children; the most vulnerable being underserved children. According to statistics, in Nigeria, about 60% of children in poor communities live below minimum standard. Consequently, this makes them susceptible and vulnerable to contracting the COVID-19 virus if exposed. Even though Children are the future sadly, if that future is wiped out today because of their inability to access and apply safety measures, what hope do we then have as a nation?

It is in the light of the foregoing that Shise and Ageba’s children’s foundation deemed it necessary to distribute face shields, nose masks as well as promote good hygiene in some selected poor communities in Nigeria. This gesture was aimed at propagating COVID-19 mitigations towards protecting the health rights of vulnerable children.
